Grief and Healing

AFTERCARE

Watts Funeral Home’s commitment to care for your family does not end with the funeral ceremony. The Watts Family realizes that the hardest times often follow the funeral. Therefore, we developed our Continuing Care Program which is offered free of charge to anyone in our area who has suffered a loss.

The Watts’ feel it is their responsibility as death care experts to care for the needs of the entire community. Even if Watts Funeral Homes did not care for the family at the time of loss, all Continuing Care Programs are still available to them.

Jamie Watts is our Continuing Care Coordinator. Our Program includes the following services:

Mending the Heart Ache Program

This CD is hosted by Fred Frank and features the insights of real people (not actors) who understand the grief process because they’ve traveled the road themselves- and survived. These CD’s have advice on surviving the early stages of loss and coping with guilt, anger and relief. Listening to these CD’s may actually help you “grow” through your grief and rebuild a wonderful new future for yourself.  This CD is free of charge and available to anyone and may be requested online on the Request A Resource page.

Books by Dough Manning

As a counselor, lecturer and author, Dough Manning addresses the subjects of grief, aging and personal relationships across the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Some of Dough’s books deal with such things as helping children cope with death, long-term illness, and sudden death such as suicide or accidental death. These books can be requested online free of charge, on the Request A Resource page.

Continuing Care Program

A Watts Funeral Home Exclusive. The Watts Family knows that after a death occurs, your feelings will change often very rapidly over the first year. That’s why they have arranged to have Dough Manning send you a series of books that will speak to you when you need help the most. The first book you receive will be about three weeks after the death. You will then receive a book three months later then six months and finally at the one year anniversary. You will also receive calls from the Watts Family to check on you and make sure you are doing all right. This program is available to Watts Funeral Homes families only.

Holiday Remembrance Candlelight Program

The Watts Family knows that the holidays can be the most difficult time of the year. That’s why every December the Watts Family along with hundreds of families throughout the county join together at the riverfront in Palatka, for a special evening of remembrance. The program includes words of encouragement, special songs, a special time to recognize the names of our loved ones, and every family coming forward to light a candle in memory of their loved one. This program is available to anyone who has lost someone even if Watts Funeral Homes did not serve the family. On-line registration is available starting in September.

Holiday remembrance tree.

As the Holidays approach every one who has ever lost someone feels the need to do something to remember his or her loved one. Watts Funeral Homes places a Holiday Remembrance tree in their funeral home starting the Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday. Ornaments are placed on the tree to honor those families that Watts Funeral Homes have served that year. All families are encouraged to come by and personalize an ornament for their loved one. Participation is open to everyone in the county even if Watts Funeral Homes did not serve the family. Everyone is invited to come by and look at the tree.
