William A. (Gus) Whirley, 83 of Satsuma, Florida passed away on Monday, July 3, 2017. Gus was born in Maryland to the late Hayden and Mamie Whirley. He loved to fish and hunt, have fun and enjoy life. Gus had a hard of gold and was a hard worker. He was Shriner for many years and did a lot of cooking for the Shriner’s. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by three siblings, sons, Michael and Daniel Whirley. Survivors are his daughter, Sandy Oestreicher and husband, Holger of Germany; sisters, Louise, Jeanne, Lou; brother, Bobby; granddaughters, Shannon Scranton, Leana Santini ; four great children and partner of 27 years, Joyce Shorts; step daughter, Penny Merson, Joyanna Shorts and Tracy Winchester.

    Gus was more than a good friend…he was also family to me. He had a lot of knowledge in which he was always willing to share with me in time of need. We were always there for each other to help when worked needed to be done. I will miss him terrible. Joyce, you are in our hearts and prayers.
